Notes:
For almost three decades bassist Bill Moring has provided a healthy bottom line to the musical fortunes of Woody Herman, Clark Terry, Tommy Flanagan, Mel Lewis, Al Cohn, Mel Torme, Joe Williams, Mulgrew Miller, Ray Barretto, Larry Coryell and Gary Bartz to name some. Considering Bill’s vast experience, it’s surprising this is only his second recording as a leader. Here, he brings back the spirited group of trumpeter Jack Walrath, saxophonist Tim Armacost and drummer Steve Johns from his first headliner, “Way Out East”, also adding the talents of keyboardist Steve Allee for this space. After what Moring calls a “drive-by rehearsal” the night before, the group drove to New Paltz, New York near Woodstock, to have fun and see what would happen. The result, “Spaces In Time”, a collection of nine nuggets guaranteed to engage your space with some righteous time.

Reviews:
"Spaces in Time," offered up by bassist Bill Moring and "Way Out East" completely fulfills. There are no spaces, shortfalls or vacuums in this very robust effort. It fills all the musical spaces compositionally and creatively with an energy, intelligence and humor that is very admirable - and inspiring. Nine interesting, energetic, sophisticated and compositionally refined nuggets are on display.
With one tune's exception - and, with one band member abstaining - every cut is an original composition of a band member. And, each tune shines. There's everything served up from blues to more adventurous, complex, freer jazz. "Way Out East" individually and collectively involves you in their creative existence. - NICK MONDELLO (Jazz Improv Magazine)
